For our final Spirit Day of the year, students were asked to wear a pair of their favorite bedroom slippers. Students (and Ms. Van Sickle) had so much fun walking around school in our cozy shoes.

National Zoo Field Trip
For our second field trip, we traveled to Washington D.C.'s National Zoo. Although it poured in the morning, the day turned out to be a nice one! Students were excited to see all of the different animals at the zoo. Each student was encouraged to visit the "Amazonia" exhibit in preparation for our upcoming unit on rainforests.

Blue Crabs Baseball Game Field Trip
For our first field trip of the year, we traveled to the Blue Crabs stadium to see a baseball game. The weather was perfect and the game was a blast! We really enjoyed seeing the Blue Crabs win the game, too!

For our next Spirit Day, students were encouraged to wear their favorite team jerseys. Some students wore football jerseys, some wore soccer jerseys, and some wore jerseys from a team on which they play. Thursday, April 1, 2010
Spirit Day #6- Crazy Shoe and Sock Day

Lucky Charms Graphing
In honor of St. Patrick's Day, the students completed a graphing activity that had them graph the types and amounts of marshamallows in a given serving of "Lucky Charms" cereal. After graphing the marshmallows in their bag, the students were required to answer math questions about their serving, such as "What is the fraction of balloon marshmallows in your bag?" and "Is your stars plus your horseshoes greater than, less than, or equal to your rainbows plus your hearts?"
The best part of this activity was we got to eat the cereal when we were finished graphing!
A Visit From Some Japanese Friends
Mary B. Neal Elementary was very lucky to meet some special guests from Japan! A few students from Japan who are studying to be teachers visited our school and taught a few lessons in some of the classes. Our class was lucky enough to get to meet them and learn from them. Check out the awesome things they did with us!

This teacher read us a story called "Peach Boy." The illustrations were authentic anime drawings. The story was about a boy who was born from a peach and became a Japanese hero. We enjoyed rooting for Peach Boy!
Our Valentine's Day Party
Our Valentine's Day party was a lot of fun. The students enjoyed eating some treats, working on some Valentine's activities and games, and watching "Be My Valentine, Charlie Brown."
The students were asked to design "mailboxes" to hold their Valentine's Day cards. The students were very creative and put forth a lot of effort to make their mailboxes look extra special!
Sorting Polygons
To help us learn about polygons in math class, the students did a picture sort with the person sitting next to them in class. They sorted the pictures based on characteristics of the different shapes. After they sorted the pictures into groups, we talked about the different characteristics on polygons (all straight sides, no gaps, and no crossing lines).
